About

PROJECT AWARE is a student-founded nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting eating disorder recovery through education and community outreach. Eating disorders don’t just affect how someone eats—they affect how someone thinks, feels, interacts, and survives. They are among the most life-threatening mental health conditions impacting adolescents today, yet they are still widely misunderstood as a “choice” or a “phase,” especially in academically competitive and socially demanding environments.

At PROJECT AWARE, we believe that silence is one of the greatest dangers surrounding eating disorders. When a disorder is invisible, stigmatized, or distorted, individuals often don’t seek help—they get quieter. Many experience early warning signs but avoid reaching out due to fear of judgment, misinformation, or lack of awareness. This delay in intervention can worsen mental health and increase serious physical and psychological risk.

PROJECT AWARE was created to change that.

Through our accessible online platform, we provide a safe and private space for individuals to explore research-based information, body image education, recovery resources, and supportive tools rooted in evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Our goal is not to diagnose, but to educate—ensuring emotional safety while helping students and families better understand eating disorders as real mental health conditions that deserve compassion, urgency, and proper support.

We aim to empower individuals with knowledge, connect them to helpful resources, and strengthen community understanding so that no one feels forced to struggle alone. Designed for long-term impact, PROJECT AWARE continues beyond competitions and events by building a lasting platform for awareness, recovery, and hope.
